A wastewater treatment and transmission upgrade in Jiaxing uses large AVK gate valves, including a DN2200 unit standing more than seven metres high.
AVK's largest gate valve was installed in a wastewater transmission project in Jiaxing, China, to meet increasing wastewater-treatment and conveyance demand.
Wastewater pollution remains a major challenge worldwide. As water scarcity increases across domestic, agricultural and other uses, effective treatment and water-reuse methods are essential to protecting limited water resources.
Jiaxing in Zhejiang Province, China, experienced increasing daily wastewater volumes while its existing treatment plant had long been operating under overload conditions. A wastewater-treatment and environmental-discharge upgrade was therefore initiated, including a 63.5 km DN1400-DN2200 pipeline with a final wastewater transmission capacity of 400,000 m³/day and three new booster pumping stations.
Working with AVK Shanghai, AVK Anhui supplied eight DN1800 metal-seated gate valves and one exceptionally large DN2200 electrically actuated gate valve. The DN2200 valve weighs 27 tonnes and stands more than seven metres high. Installed at the pumping-station outlet connected to the wastewater treatment plant, its straight-through bore helps reduce pressure loss and pumping power. The valve includes a bypass valve and drain valve, while optional shoes and channels support smooth operation.
The result is a robust and reliable large-diameter valve solution for a critical wastewater application.
At the time, in mid-2021, this was the largest gate valve manufactured by AVK Anhui. With support from AVK Tech and AVK's global capabilities, AVK Anhui handled the complete delivery process: from drawings and rough castings through machining, shot blasting, coating, assembly, testing, packing, delivery, installation and final commissioning. Each stage formed part of the production quality process.
As one of the AVK Group's major manufacturing locations, AVK Anhui continues to strengthen its supply chain for AVK sales companies worldwide, particularly for large and special-purpose valves.
Expanding manufacturing capability
During the previous decade, AVK Anhui established a number of size milestones:

- DN1000 swing check valve (Series 641, 2015).
- DN900 discharge valve (Series 857, 2015).
- DN1000 resilient-seated gate valve (Series 06, 2017).
- DN1200 recoil check valve (Series 641, 2018).
- DN800/600 submerged discharge valve (Series 856, 2020).
- DN1600 hydraulically operated butterfly valve (Series 756, 2021).
- DN3000 double-eccentric butterfly valve (Series 756, 2021).
- DN1800 plunger valve (Series 872, 2021).
- DN2200 metal-seated gate valve (Series 54, 2021).
Further milestones were expected following the 2022 expansion of AVK Anhui's large-valve production facilities, which was planned to double manufacturing capacity.
