The trans-Anatolian natural-gas pipeline project uses AVK UL/FM fire-protection solutions at compressor and metering stations delivered within Tekfen's project scope.
Government stakeholders from Azerbaijan, Turkey and Italy worked with BP to transport natural gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey and Europe through an approximately 1,850 km main pipeline crossing Turkey.
The initial planned capacity of this major project was 16 billion m³ of gas per year, with a planned increase to 31 billion m³ per year.
The pipeline begins in Ardahan Province at the Georgia-Turkey border and passes through 20 Turkish provinces before reaching Ipsala in Edirne at the Turkey-Greece border. From there, the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) connects the system to European markets. Connections to Turkey's natural-gas distribution network are provided through off-take stations at Eskisehir and Thrace.
More than ten subcontracts were awarded within the project. Tekfen Construction and Installation Co., Ltd. was the contractor for one of these packages and DB Engineering's customer. Its scope covered compressor and metering stations in Turkey, including the design and construction of two compressor stations and four metering stations. Tekfen selected AVK UL/FM-approved fire-protection solutions, including dry-barrel hydrants, gate valves and indicator posts, and more than 100 product sets were supplied to the project.
